thinking theology

we are the trapeze artists
of the high and risky wire
stretched out across Niagara
as it salivates with lust for us
when we fall
we fall forever
over foam
exhilarating rush of air
geometry of rock and grass
never pausing
descending into the mystery of being
the caves of inanna

we are the high wire dancers
orange and scarlet tutus
freesia in our hair
our naked feet painted
with the runes
the sacred secret symbols
known only to our kind

and one foot sashays
and the other follows
and we dance along the wire
high above the spray
over the heads of mortals
teasing the rocks below
held up only by our joyful
certain fate
